Research
EducationCity.com is committed to providing parents with a product which is of proven educational value. In January 2006, a study was carried out in six Worcestershire schools to assess how using EducationCity.com in the classroom can impact positively on Year 6 pupils preparing for their SATs exams. In all, 140 tests were taken and almost 3,500 scores recorded. The pupils’ actual SATs results were then analysed.
The main findings from the research are outlined below:
• Half of the pupils achieved a score above the level their teachers had predicted for them;
• The average improvement was 1.46 sublevels. This would be the difference between a child getting a Level 3b and 4c.
• The pupils showing the most improvement bettered their results by 5 sublevels. This would be the difference between a child getting a Level 3b and 5c.
• Overall, the average improvement represented half a sublevel. The average improvement for Numeracy, Literacy and Science was 0.87 of a sublevel, 0.14 of a sublevel and 0.70 of a sublevel respectively.
• EducationCity.com is valued as a classroom resource. From the teacher’s perspective, it is seen to engender a feeling of responsibility amongst the children towards their own learning. From a pupil’s perspective, the EducationCity.com activities are considered significantly more fun than activity sets and worksheets.
