Hey Fan Club Buddies,

Today is a very special day in Scotland as they are celebrating the life of the very famous and talented Scottish poet, Robert Burns! Born on this day in 1759 in Ayr, Scotland, Burns became famous for writing poetry in the Scots language. His most famous poem is called “Auld Lang Syne” and later became a very popular traditional folk song sung at Hogmanay in Scotland and New Year’s Eve in English speaking countries around the world. Do you usually sing this on New Years Eve?

Why don't you have a go at writing your own poem and posting it below!

Hey buddies,

Today in China they are celebrating Chinese New Year, which is the most important day in the traditional Chinese calendar! This year in China they are celebrating the Year of the Dragon!

The Chinese New Year, is also known as the Spring festival as it celebrates the start of new life and the season of sowing and ploughing. The festivities of the New Year start on the first day of the lunar month and continue until the 15th day of the lunar month. This is why it is known across Asia as the Lunar New Year.

The festival ends with a spectacular Lantern Festival which includes the famous “Dragon dance” where a dragon made of traditional Chinese materials such as paper, silk and bamboo performs a traditional dance.

Is anybody celebrating Chinese New Year today? If so, what are you doing? Who's knows how to say Happy New Year in Chinese?

Wow fan clubbers!

You have certainly been busy testing your maths skills at the all new Play Live stadium!

We have seen some huge scores appearing on the leader board. In each year group level from 1 to 7 there have been scores right up to 1,000, 2000 and even very nearly 6,000.

That's a huge amount of maths practice you are getting through especially as the leader board is reset to zero every Sunday evening!

To celebrate we have 2 new colouring in activities in our draw and colour section. Download your favourite, print it off, and colour it in. Be sure to post it to the draw and colour gallery.

Download the Play Live Maths stopwatch colour-in here

Download the Play Maths trophy colour-in here

(You will need a computer that can view .pdf files to view these)

If you are feeling really adventurous why not design your own Play Live Stadium scene and post that to our gallery too.

Hi EducationCity.com fan clubbers,

It's national anti bullying week.

Bullying can happen to anybody at anytime. It can happen at school, home or even online and in any situation is not acceptable.

If you ever find yourself being picked on do talk to someone you can trust. Perhaps there's a teacher, a favourite aunty or uncle, your mum or dad, or a friend you can speak with?

If you don't feel happy talking to someone look at organisations such as Childline who are expert at helping young people in difficult situations.

Is your school doing anything special for national anti-bullying week? We'd love to hear about the different activities that are happening.

We are all getting ready for Bonfire night at EducationCity.com, looking out for local organised displays. It's an exciting time of the year, but can also be very dangerous. If you are attending an event, or having your own, do keep safe by making sure you and your family follow the fireworks code:

    *  Keep fireworks in a closed box
    *  Follow the instructions on each firework
    *  Light all fireworks at arms length
    *  Stand well back
    *  Never go back to a lit firework
    *  Never put fireworks in your pocket
    *  Never throw fireworks
    *  Keep Pets indoors

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is the most important religious festival celebrated by Hindus.

The timing of Diwali is based on the Hindu lunar calendar and is usually in October or November. Diwali is followed by the new year, when within the family (and sometimes very close friends) the younger generation receive blessings for the new year from the older generation.

Do any fan club members out there  know what Diwali means in Hindi?
