Research
EducationCity.com is committed to providing parents with a product which has proven educational value.
In late 2007, a study was carried out in five Bradford schools to demonstrate that by using EducationCity.com in Maths lessons pupils’ SATs levels would significantly improve.
End of Year 5/early Year 6 results were taken as a benchmark and results from the end of Key Stage 2 were compared against them. The study’s aim was to see an improvement of more than 2 sublevels, as a 2 sublevel improvement is the general improvement target between year groups. The study also hoped to see the pupils achieve better SATs results than those predicted by the teacher at the beginning of Year 6.
At the end of the research period, it was shown that:
-
There was an average improvement of 2.16 sublevels. This would be the difference between a pupil getting a Level 4a and a Level 5b.
-
The greatest pupil improvement was of an amazing 9 sublevels. Against teacher predictions, the greatest improvement was of an equally significant 7 sublevels.
-
66% of pupils improved by 2 sublevels or more and 31% of pupils exceeded the level their teacher had predicted for them.
-
100% of participants enjoyed using EducationCity.com. Teachers found it not only helped pupils engage more with the subject matter, but also had a significant impact on grades.
Genek Prystawsky, teacher at St Cuthbert and The First Martyrs’ Catholic School said of EducationCity.com:
"I believe that EducationCity has been a great contributing factor in helping pupils achieve higher than expected marks and excellent SATs results this year. 94% achieved Level 4 and above and 59% achieved Level 5. The school's target was set at 88% for Level 4 and above.”
