Warren Park Study 2009/2010

Warren Park StudyIn 2009/2010 Warren Park Primary School’s Head Teacher Colin Harris commenced an independent study of EducationCity.com with Year 6 pupils. One of the SIP targets for the school was to increase level 4 attainment in Mathematics, which directed the study to a Maths focus. The study shows how EducationCity.com:

  • meets the criteria of an excellent all round e-Learning resource
  • boosts attainment levels
  • is an accurate indicator of attainment levels (tests)

The data shows that the intervention during this academic year has made a strong positive differenceand is a factor in the highly accelerated learning of the pupils. The school is now an advocate of EducationCity.com and has strongly recommended EducationCity.com to several other schools in the area.

Bradford Study

Between September 2007 and December 2007, five schools from within Bradford LA were selected to take part in EducationCity.com’s Maths study. The study aimed to demonstrate that through targeted use of EducationCity.com in Maths, pupils would:

  • improve by significantly more than the 2 sublevels generally aimed for between year groups
  • improve the SATs level predicted by their teacher at the beginning of Year 6.

The main research findings are outlined below:

teacher and pupil learning with educationcity.com

  • Comparing the end of Year 5 results/early Year 6 benchmark against results from the end of Key Stage 2, the average improvement was of 2.16 sublevels. This would be the difference between a pupil getting a Level 4a and a Level 5b.
  • The greatest pupil improvement against Year 5 results was of an amazing 9 sublevels. Against teacher predictions, the improvement was of an equally significant 7 sublevels.
  • 66% of pupils improved by 2 sublevels or more between the end of Year 5 and their end of KS2 SATs; 31% of pupils exceeded the level their teacher had predicted for them.
  • EducationCity.com had a positive and measurable effect on pupil performance.
  • 100% of participants enjoyed using EducationCity.com. Teachers found it not only helped pupils engage with learning, but also has significant impact on improving learning outcomes and performance grades.
  • "I believe that EducationCity has been a great contributing factor in helping pupils achieve higher than expected marks and excellent SATs results this year. 94% achieved Level 4 and above of which 59% achieved Level 5. The school's target was set at 88% Level 4 and above.” Genek Prystawsky, St Cuthbert and The First Martyrs’ Catholic School.

Worcestershire Study

In January 2006, six Worcestershire schools were enlisted by Worcestershire Local Authority to assess how using EducationCity.com can positively impact Year 6 classes preparing for their SAT exams. In total almost 3500 scores were recorded and 140 tests were taken. Pupils' actual SATs results were then analysed.

The main research findings are outlined below:

  • 50% of the sample bettered the level their teachers predicted for them.
  • The average improvement was 1.46 sublevels. This would be the difference between a child getting a Level 3b and 4c.
  • The best improvers bettered their results by 5 sublevels. This would be the difference between a child getting a Level 3b and 5c.
  • Overall, the average improvement represented half a sublevel. The average improvement for Numeracy, Literacy and Science was 0.87 of a sublevel, 0.14 of a sublevel and 0.70 of a sublevel respectively.
  • EducationCity.com is valued as a classroom resource. From the teacher’s perspective, it is easy to use, labour-saving in terms of marking and seen to engender a feeling of responsibility amongst the children towards their own learning. The myCity and SuccessTracker features were especially valued. From a pupil’s perspective, the EducationCity.com activities are considered significantly more fun than activity sets and worksheets.
