Although the 2017 SATs are a little way off just yet, we thought we’d step in and give you some support in helping your Year 6 students gain confidence for the test in English and the types of questions they’re likely to face.

To help out, we’ve put together a fantastic list of 11 Upper Key Stage 2 Activities on EducationCity that’ll be great for supporting the learning of Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar. What’s more, students can do them at home in their own time if they have Home Access, or even at school by putting all the content in a MyCity, our lesson planning tool.

Here’s Why the Activities Can Help Your Students…

So, let’s take a look at the Activities and log in to give them a go…

Space Race – Use root words and prefixes as a support for spelling: sub, tri, con.

Treasure of the Deep – Spell words with suffixes: age, ed, est, er, ing, ful, ly, less, ness.

Cave Escape – Spell words using the rule ‘i’ before ‘e’ except after ‘c’ (only with the ‘ee’ sound).

Wilderness Park – To identify the common noun, proper noun, collective noun or noun phrase within a sentence.

Phantom Ellipsis – Understand and use punctuation.

Clue’s in the Clause – Consider the position of a subordinate clause within a sentence.

Out to Play – To use capitalisation correctly within a passage of writing.

Skateboard Whiz – Locate/recall information from a text, ‘Learning to Fall’.

Timeless Tales (Greek myth – Daedalus and Icarus) – To read a story and demonstrate understanding by answering questions.

The Great Stensby – Use root words and prefixes as a support for spelling: super, micro and port.

The Grape Debate – Use a range of oral techniques to present persuasive arguments. Use the techniques of dialogue talk to explore ideas, topics or issues.
