BBC’s Terrific Scientific: The Grow Investigation

Does your school know about the BBC’s Terrific Scientific investigations?

BBC’s Terrific Scientific: The Grow Investigation

If you haven’t heard about them just yet, we’re about to tell you more! Schools are able to sign up to and get involved with a number of fantastic investigations the BBC are running. The BBC have already had many investigations, those being on topics such as forces, feet and power. However, the next one they’re running, and their penultimate one, is on growth and living things and is taking place between March and April.

If you’d like to find out more about this newest investigation, simply visit the BBC’s Terrific Scientific website for further information.

To support your investigation on growth and living things though, we’ve put together some resources from EducationCity that are ideal to go alongside your lessons on it.

The content we’ve picked out is for EYFS to Key Stage 2 students, and comes in the form of Learn Screens, Activities, Topic Tools and more, so there’s quite a lot of resources to support your lessons. To find any of the resources, just type their ID number into Search on EducationCity.

Here are your resources for the BBC’s Terrific Scientific investigation on growth and living things…

Granny’s Garden: #922 – Decide what plants require to be able to grow properly.Green Fingers Science Learn Screen

Seed Feed: #916 – Consider conditions that might affect germination.

Topic Tools

Grow a Plant: #1911 – Explore the effects of water, heat and light on the growth of a plant.

Observing growth: #15027 – If you were carrying out an experiment to find out how quickly plants grow, how could you record your observation? Talk to a partner about your ideas.

Upper Key Stage 2

Learn Screens

Green Fingers: #12626 – An explanation of the different parts of a flower and what part they have to play in the reproductive cycle of the plant.

Grow Up: #25591 – Keywords used when describing the stages of human life.

Changing humans: #15031 – In what ways do humans change as they get older?

All about plants: #14122 – Manu is investigating whether plants grow better in some soils than others. If you were to carry out an experiment on plants, what sort of things could you investigate?

Organisms and environments: #14082 – In what ways do animals adapt to the environment in which they live?

Form and function: #14055 – Look at this duck’s feet. Why do you think they are formed in that way?

Word Search Topic Tool

Another super helpful resource to support your lessons is the Word Search Topic Tool. It’s available in the Science module for all year levels. It lets you add the words you want into a word search (so you can add your words on growth and living things here) and then you can either print it out for your students to complete individually or do it as a class on the interactive whiteboard. Perfect!
