Fundraising Ideas for Children in Need
The fantastic BBC Children in Need Appeal Night takes place on Friday 17th November and the organisers are hoping to raise even more money this year!
Did you know BBC Children in Need is the BBC’s own charity and it began as a five-minute radio broadcast, transmitted on Christmas Day in 1927, which raised £1,143 (£27,150 in today’s money) for four children's charities.
Over the years, the BBC Children in Need format has changed considerably but since 1980, it has been in the telethon format we know today, raising money exclusively for charities working with children in the United Kingdom, and so far over £800 million has been raised!
This year, BBC Children in Need are calling all students across the UK to take part in ‘The Big Spotacular!’, a fab fundraising initiative encouraging schools to get involved in helping to raise lots of money.
Are your school fundraising for BBC Children in Need? Take a look at some of our awesome fundraising ideas below…
One of the most popular fundraising events is a bake sale, as they are easy to organise, set up and run. You could hold a bake sale event in your school and get your students selling their yummy cakes!
Don’t forget to download your free BBC Children in Need ‘Bake, rate, donate’ resources for your event too!
Dress up events are super fun and are great for getting all students involved and raising lots of money for charity. You could even have a themed dress up, where students dress up as animals, wear their pyjamas or even have them rock up as their favourite Disney character (we LOVE this idea)!

Do your student have any books they no longer want? Why not hold a book sale event and sell any unwanted books? You could even hold a book raffle to make things a little exciting, so students don’t know which book they’ll get.
You’ll find a raffle ticket template on the BBC Children in Need website – perfect!
Explore more of the fundraising resources on the BBC Children in Need website too! They have some super cool buntings, raffle tickets and much more!
That’s all for now - good luck with your fundraising everyone!
