EducationCity is delighted that its Code Crunch Student Tool is currently being showcased by the new ‘How to Teach Programming’ events, offered by the Naace/AQA Partnership.

Three of the events have now taken place in Manchester and London, with more events planned nationwide next spring and summer and Code Crunch received great praise from the KS2 teacher audience.

Tim Scratcherd, Naace Lead, Standards in Computing, explains why, “With the Code Crunch tool, EducationCity makes a subject many teachers worry about teaching easy. Like all of EducationCity’s fun, educational content, it is intuitive to use and once the teachers and children get a grasp of programming, they can create programs that are as simple or challenging as they want them to be.”

Cheri Whiteside, KS2 Teacher from All Saints’ Church of England Primary in Whitefield, explains how she’s found using EducationCity’s Code Crunch. “Since the course, I’ve been piloting Code Crunch in my school with more able Year 3s to see how well they understand simple programming. They really enjoy the challenge of making a computer do something they want it to do. I initially introduced the characters as variables and explained the toolbar to them and we started off just making the screen show numbers, products, additions and subtractions but the children soon began to explore, setting each other challenges. As a teacher, I think it has great potential for problem solving and a great first step into programming in KS2.”
