Connecting the Dots with Assessments

Further to the Our Assessment Vision blog of a couple of weeks ago, we’re delighted to be able to share more detail with you about what will be included within our new Assessments for schools following the National Curriculum for England.

A breakdown of what you will have available to you is outlined in the table below:

Formative Assessments: Our Formative Assessments, which will appear in maths and English, are great for understanding where children are in terms of their learning. From the results, you will be able to modify your planned teaching and learning activities, based upon your students’ present level of understanding. Great for supporting teacher assessment!

Summative Assessments: Our Summative Assessments, which will appear for maths, English and science, are fundamentally assessments to be taken at the end of the year to evaluate student learning and give evidence for teacher assessments to be based upon.

Unit Assessments: Our Unit Assessments for maths (Years 1-6) are aimed at assessing specific areas of learning and understanding of specific concepts. They can be used ‘as and when’ teachers feel they would be useful to check on student’s understanding. Where there are misconceptions or gaps in understanding a Revision Journal can be generated to suggest Learn Screens and Activities that can be used for remedial work.

Like all our current tests, our new assessments are easy to set – see the new Set Assessment button on the homepage! – are automatically marked and give instant feedback to the teacher. They’re perfect to help you connect the dots in your students’ learning!

We’re very excited here at EducationCity HQ about the addition of Assessments moving forward, and from the user testing we’ve undertaken with Schoolzone and its associate schools, we’ve already gleaned lots of very positive feedback. Here’s a sneak peek of what to expect.

When considering our maths assessments:

We’ll let you know when the assessments are available to access on EducationCity, so keep an eye out for our next blog for details!
