Homemade gifts are a great idea, as they not only encourage creativity, but they also add a lovely personal touch, which mums just adore.

To celebrate Mother’s Day, we thought we’d share a few awesome craft ideas, which you could do with your students…

Please note that adult supervision may be needed at some stages of these crafts.

Pom Pom Heart CardHints and Tips

What you’ll need:

Method

  1. First, take two of the pipe cleaners and twist one end of each together.
  2. Take one twisted end and gently fold it back on itself bringing it towards the bottom end, to create the heart shape.
  3. Then, take your A5 or A4 card and fold it in half. Using the PVA glue, gently stick the heart into place on the front of the card and leave it to dry.
  4. Then it’s time to decorate! Fill the centre of the heart with some soft fluffy pom poms and add anything else that takes your students’ fancy.
  5. Once done, a message can be written inside or even on the front.

It would make a wonderful card!

Jar of Bath SaltsHints and Tips

What you’ll need:

Method

  1. First, you’ll need to put some of the plain bath salts into a bowl.
  2. Add in a tiny amount of essential oil (about 2 drops for every cup of salts) and a small amount of food colouring. Stir well with a wooden spoon until all of the salts absorb the colour. Repeat with as many different colours as you like.
  3. Then, carefully pour the salts into a clean jar, layering the colours to get a colourful pattern.
  4. Cut a square of fabric to fit over the lid of the jar and tie in place with some pretty ribbon.

Then you’re all done – super easy!

Yummy Decorative BiscuitsHints and Tips

What you’ll need:

Let’s Begin with How You Can Make the Glacé Icing

What you’ll need:

Method

  1. Sift the icing sugar into a bowl and add a few drops of flavouring, if you like.
  2. Using a wooden spoon, gradually stir in enough water until the mixture is the consistency of thick cream. Beat until white and smooth, and thick enough to coat the back of the spoon.
  3. Lastly, mix in some colouring if you like (maybe pink, as the biscuits are for Mother’s Day).

Method for the Decorative Biscuits

  1. Take the butter knife and spread the biscuits with a thin layer of icing.
  2. Then that’s about it! Get ready to decorate the biscuits (whilst the icing is still wet of course).
  3. Once the biscuits are decorated, put them aside on a large tray until the icing has set.

Super easy to make and we’re sure mums will love them!
