This Friday sees the first total solar eclipse in the UK since 1999. Although we know the importance of keeping safe when viewing an eclipse, we’re getting very excited in the office about witnessing such a rare phenomenon!

An eclipse is an obscuring of light, in other words, when our vision of an object in the sky is obstructed by a different object or the earth’s shadow. A total solar eclipse (as will take place on Friday) occurs when the moon comes between the sun and the earth and casts the darkest part of its shadow on earth.

Solar eclipses are rare and are always fantastic to experience. To tie your lessons in with this fascinating event, why not use EducationCity’s Activities in Science, Spanish and French (all come with accompanying peripherals such as Activity Sheets, Teacher Notes and Lesson Ideas) which can help you bring the eclipse to life in your classroom? We’ve listed them below for you! Log in and access them today!
