EducationCity has been super busy since last September developing and producing new resources for our subscribers. We’ve been plugging gaps created by the new National Curriculum, creating new and exciting resources for the new Computing curriculum and listening to customer feedback about the types of resources they would like to see. Our Winter Release saw a large number of new Activities and Learn Screens being added to our content with the additional benefits of a number of enhancements and new features to the product itself including ‘MySuccess’. Using this, students are able to view all Activity and Test scores they have taken on EducationCity. These are broken down into sections within MySuccess; ‘Pick and Play’ (content they choose to access themselves), ‘Homework’ and ‘Classwork’ MyCities.
Content added includes new Activities and Learn Screens for English, Science, French and Computing (our new module), as well as a host of Topical Resources. A new Activity for English is ‘Ready or Not’ which meets the objective of ‘identifying and reading phase 3 high-frequency words and tricky words’ for the Year 1 Reading – Word reading strand. It’s already received some positive feedback from subscribers and is a great supplement to our range of phonics resources. A number of these have been upgraded and improved by our producer and our phonics expert, both of whom will be on our stand at BETT and available for a chat.
Another great Learn Screen for English, and one of my favourites, is ‘Grammar Island – Quest 1: The Cave of Verbs’ which hits the objective ‘how active and passive verbs are used within sentences’ in the Upper Key Stage 2 Writing – Composition – Vocabulary, Grammar and punctuation strand. Well worth a look.
For Computing, our new module, there have been additions in both the Information Technology and Computer Science strands. ‘LAN’d Before Time’ looks at types of networks and meets the objective ‘understand computer networks including the
internet; how they can provide multiple services, such as the world wide web; and the opportunities they offer for communication and collaboration’. It’s a great addition for Upper Key Stage 2 in the Computer Science strand and again, is proving very useful to teachers and students alike. We will continue to add more resources to this module so that we have all the objectives in all three strands covered. After its initial ‘free’ period, the Computing module is proving popular with our customers.
