What you’ll need (for each student):

  • Chinet plate (or disposable/paper plate)
  • Two magnetic marbles
  • Magnet wand
  • Two plastic spoons
  • Paint (lots of colours)
  • Pom poms/circular sponges
  • Scissors
  • Brown card
  • Yellow card
  • Adhesive to stick the elements on the wall

Method:

1. Place the marbles in a paint pot with yellow and blue paint in, one colour and one marble for each.

2. Ask the student to spoon out the marbles and put them on the plate.

3. With adult help, hold up the plate with a magnet wand underneath and see the marbles twirling around, and the colours combining to make lots of colours.

4. Let each student drop the marbles back into the paint as much as they’d like until they’re happy with the pattern on their plate.

5. When this is done, let the plates dry.

6. Now, when the plates are dry (perhaps the next day), let each student get different colours of paint and pom poms/sponges, and drop these in the paint they’d like to use to decorate their plate.

7. Ask them to dab the pom poms/sponges on the plates.

8. Teacher time… assemble the plates in a triangle to make a tree shape on a wall/display board, etc.

9. Cut a tree trunk out with the brown card and a star with the yellow card (you could make this out of students’ handprints).

10. Stick these near the plates so they look like a tree trunk and a star and ta da, your tree is complete – a whole class masterpiece!

What you’ll need:

  • Wrapping paper
  • Santa hat
  • Tinsel
  • White roll
  • Printer
  • Pens
  • Scissors
  • An adhesive to stick the elements to the door

Method:

1. Roll out the wrapping paper against the door and stick it on (you might need to cut it down to size).

2. Outline the door with tinsel.

3. Grab some of the white roll and put it on the wrapping paper at a slight slant, making sure to roll the ends so it looks like a scroll. Fix this onto the door.

4. Stick on the Santa hat above the paper.

5. Now print out ‘Santa’s Good List’ onto a piece of paper (or you could write it!) and stick this at the top of the white roll.

6. All that’s left to be done is to get your students to write their names on the paper – simple!

What you’ll need:

  • Black display board paper
  • White display board paper
  • Different coloured A4 paper
  • White marker
  • An adhesive to stick the elements to the door

Method:

1. Lay the black display board paper against the full length and width of the door and attach it on (you might need to cut it down to size).

2. Now make the trunk out of brown paper and the snowy bottom out of white paper and stick these on.

3. Over to your students! Ask your students to draw around their hands on the different colour paper (you might find you want more green as it’s more tree inspired!).

4. Ask your students to cut them out (be careful – adult help may be needed here for younger students). Just remember that you’ll need enough hands to make a tree on the door.

5. Now back over to you. Stick the hands on the black paper on the door and make a tree shape with them.

6. Now cut out a star with yellow paper and stick it on top of the tree.

7. Finally, get your white pen and dot it about to create a starry effect. And that’s it, you’re all done!

What you’ll need:

  • Red pieces of card
  • White pieces of card
  • Scissors
  • Glue/double-sided tape

Method:

1. Cut out 10 circles from the red and white card – five of each colour. Make sure to make them the size you want them to be if you’re covering a certain space.

2. Now stick them altogether, arranging them alternately, so white, red, white, red, and attach them up where you need – a perfectly quick but fun and colourful display idea!
