A warm EducationCity welcome to Debora Barton

Debora Barton is the second of the two new Educational Content Developers on the EducationCity team. Here we talk to her about teaching and find out about what she aims to bring to her new role.

“Hello, my name is Debora Barton and I’ve been a qualified teacher for the past four years. I started working in the school setting when my own children were young, when I voluntarily supported in both their preschool and primary schools. Loving the work, I became a teaching assistant approximately 7 years ago, training as a Higher Level Teaching Assistant specialising in mathematics before commencing my teacher training.

“Once I qualified as a teacher, I began teaching mathematics in a secondary school before moving to teach in a primary school 3 years ago. Here, I became the numeracy coordinator across two federated schools and have taught Upper KS2.  Last year, I successfully completed a post graduate certificate of professional development in Primary Mathematics (MAST).

“I am currently teaching a Year 5 class on a part time basis and split my time between EducationCity and school.

“As for what I bring to EducationCity, I am confident my recent and continued teaching experience will stand me in good stead. I already use EducationCity regularly in my classes, so know the positive impact it can have.

“My aim as new Educational Content Developer is to build on the high quality, engaging content it offers whilst helping it adapt to the ever changing educational landscape, ensuring it is relevant to the moment.”
