Dyslexia Awareness Week 2012

This week marks Dyslexia Awareness Week and we have got two fabulous ThinkIts to help promote discussion about this condition.

Dyslexia is a broad term for disorders that involve difficulty in learning to read or interpret words, letters and other symbols.

Did you know that 10% of the British population are dyslexic?

4% severely so (British Dyslexia Association,2012). Despite this, many people still do not fully understand what dyslexia is or how to support it. Dyslexia Awareness Week therefore aims to raise the profile of the condition whilst also highlighting the support, services and tools that are available for those with dyslexia.

One such tool is a new font called OpenDyslexic. This has been created to increase readability for readers with dyslexia. The type faces include regular, bold, italic and bold-italic styles. It is being updated and improved continually based on input from its users.

How EducationCity.com can help

To raise awareness for this week, we have created two ThinkIts, one based around the new OpenDyslexic font, whilst the other is on people who are dyslexic and very successful!

The ThinkIt ID’s are 309 and 310.
