Earth Day Poetry

Earth Day 2012 is upon us, so we have gone all green in the EducationCity.com office!

Earth Day is on April 22nd and to raise awareness of this day and what the message is all about, we have created some fantastic resources for you to download and use in your classroom. Not forgetting, the brand new ThinkIts which have also been created for Earth Day.

Suggested Earth Day Activity

Using ThinkIts ID 205, why not create a fun literacy activity with your class? The ideas stemming from the description of the Earth on this ThinkIt, could be a starting point for a poem about the Earth! It can either be used as an introduction to a poetry lesson or as a 10 minute stand-alone activity in order to get your class thinking about adjectives, poetry and the Earth.

What’s more, their poems can be placed in the Teleprompter Tool to get their peers comparing how they each would describe the Earth.

Our Business Development Manager, Stuart, has created this Haiku, a Japanese poem of seventeen syllables, in three lines of five, seven and five, about the Earth:

Earth
blue balloon of water, rock
and air and different legs that walk
in jungles, deserts; city blocks
