In the Classroom… Teaching Times Tables

There are a number of super fun ways for students to learn their times tables on EducationCity. In this blog, we’re going to explore three great ways that you can try in your lessons.

First thing’s first though, we caught up with Mr Nottingham about the times tables resources on EducationCity. Here’s what he had to say…

“The maths tools we tend to use the most are the Times Tables Songs! The kids love them. We’ve also used the MyCity to help pupils revise number facts. PlayLive is also popular.”

Mr Nottingham, Computing Coordinator, Springwell Park Primary School

Using this, let’s tell you a few of the ways you can teach those all-important multiplication facts on EducationCity too…

Times Tables Songs

We’ve a great selection of fun Times Tables Songs, ranging from the 2 x to the 12 x Table, to encourage your students to sing their multiplication facts all together. These engaging songs are a great way to help students recall number facts.

To try them out on EducationCity, type ‘Times Table Song’ in the Search feature and press ‘Enter’ – super simple!

Mental Maths Topic Tool

A great way to assess students’ multiplication knowledge and make sure they get plenty of practice, is to set a customised mental maths test with the Mental Maths Topic Tool.

This is a great tool to make sure your students are learning what you need them to – search ‘Mental Maths’ in Search to see more!

PlayLive Maths

PlayLive Maths is recommended by many teachers worldwide and it’s also perfect for some important times tables practice.

PlayLive Maths is a competitive mental maths challenge, where students race each other to answer as many questions as they can in 60 seconds. We’d recommend you check it out – it’s loads of fun!
